Are you referring to the country without a unique name but only a label in reference to a political makeup within a much broader geographical realm?
The United States of America in its own government titles are often that of "
US [....]" as in US State Department, Defense, Army, etc.. Officially the word of 'America' to designate the country that is the USA is not present.
America as a name for the USA? A far too long held colloquialism, originating from nearly 500 years ago when from the English and later United Kingdom perspective of their
America being just that of some territory in North America.
Honestly, time to get your own unique name for disinction in this world. For many in the world, notably the Brits and sadly a more promiment use by our CBC, I strongly wish to give it a rest in presenting our bordering neighbour as America. Damnit, we are all in America from the NWT to the province of Tierra del Fuego.
A name? I'm fond for Yankeeland. Before US southerners cry in -- you lost and the term to denote you entire lot as Yanks predates your inter-provincial bickering.
