Let's say you could determine the sexual orientation of your child or children. Would you exercise such an option if it was available to you?

Personally I don't think I would as I don't see being gay or bi to be a defect in any way. There is the argument of sparing the child the social stigma of being gay but that isn't a good argument in my opinion as this is something that needs to change in our culture and not something that should be weeded out because people are afraid of it. Otherwise there are any number other other traits we could similarly engineer out and that is a slippery slope!

I don't know if I can answer this question. I probably have a unique perspective on this since I dealt with it growing up. That said, I'm most likely not going to have kids due to it.

I would honestly just hope that they were straight just because America still isn't really that welcoming to gay people and no parent wants to see their child go through all the grief and anguish associated with trying to fit into this world as a gay person.

But my gut feeling is that no, I wouldn't fuck with nature... but it's fucking sad that in 2010 I have to honestly even consider that question.

Yes because changing the minds of 6 billion people is so much easier than just changing the orientation of 1 person


Think of it like this. Suppose you had a son who was nerdy. Kids pick on him because he's nerdy. Do you try to change the entire world and make humans not be assholes, or do you give the kid hormone injections and put him in boxing classes so he can put bullies in comas? I like the later plan. Changing peoples minds is difficult, but destroying their minds with repeated punches to the head is easy.

In conclusion, all gay people should carry guns.

I like to think that I have a good heart. But a person's soul is awful deep and dark and I honestly don't think I would do the right thing in this scenario.

Sigh, I guess I'm just a different generation, but I can hardly imagine a generation that would consider intentionally having a gay/lesbian child.

I guess for me, it's because I've met quite a few really unhappy/mean/asshole gays/lesbians. Some are pretty cool, but if I were to guess, I suspect the number of maladjusted gays/lesbians is significantly higher than the general population. I have absolutely nothing to base this on except my own observations.

Hell, I'm so old, I have to think about adding lesbians, because we used to call everyone that was homosexual gay.

Of course the answer is yes. Homosexuality is a disability just like any other, so yes, I would reverse it if possible. That doesn't mean I have anything against someone who is gay, just like hoping your child is not blind doesn't mean you have anything against blind people. It just means you'd rather your child not have an additional burden to face in their lives.

The difference between being gay and being blind is that blindness is a crippling illness. Being gay doesn't really get in the way of your abilities. You can still think about getting some tail, you can still wrestle, you can still enjoy watching other men wrestle, you can still work, etc.

Being gay is a lot more like being a nerd. People will treat them like shit for no reason and neither nerds nor gays are capable of reproducing :awe:
