If you could live anywhere in South West US where would it be?

In about 6 years I can retire and the wife has a standing job offer for a job in the South West US and she can live anywhere in the region. We are thinking about moving to a warmer climate and would like to start taking vacations at prospective retirement destinations to kind of check out the territory.

So, if you could pick a place to move to anywhere in the SW US (CA,NV,AZ,NM,CO,UT,WY,ID, or OR) where would it be?

Oregon is in the Southwest!? That's news to me.😛

PS On a more serious note, as an Oregon native, and considering you're from Michigan, I'd reccomend Oregon, since it's the most compatible with where you're from; but considering this is for retirement, we have a lot of "snowbirds" that head to AZ/FL for the winter, so that might mean something.

New Mexico is nice. I really like the area around Albuquerque. Mountains for scenery. Not too hot (doesn't really get above the high 90's). Not too cold (doesn't get below mid to low 20's). And not as busy and crime laden as other areas.

You are close to Denver, and at a decent sized SW Airline hub and can get to other places for dirt cheap if you want a weekend getaway.

I just recently moved to Phoenix and I don't know how long I plan to be here. It's big, dirty, crime riddled, and rather expensive short of home prices which are pretty reasonable. It'll be another LA in 10 years.

I know, when I put OR on that list I was thinking the southern regions of that state. But, my choices are that liberal.

The wife wants a more dessert climate, but I'm worried about water restrictions in the future. But, I'm keeping all options open right now.

Vegas baby......of course if I lived in Vegas I would be an uncontrollable gambling and alcohol addict.

San Diego is wonderful, assuming you can afford anything more than a cardboard box to live in.

So it would probably end up being Phoenix.

Colorado, but I like it here 😀. I've never been in most other places long enough to get a good "feel" for them, though.

Edit: If you want someplace that's always warm, I'd say San Diego or some other southern place. Colorado's a great place, but it's hardly "warm" from about late September to early March.

Edit 2: If you do come to Colorado, I'd say stick to the I-25 corridor or someplace in the mountains. The plains towns are way too small for my taste.

OK, a lot of votes for San Diego.

What kind of cost of living hit can I expect to take by living there as opposed to those areas I have heard had lower costs of living like Las Vegas, Reno, Phoenix, or Tucson.

Like what will $300K get me as far as a house.
