If you could get a 52% discount... Would you buy a dell?

Scrollin through the dell options... Freakin $130 for another gig of ddr2 533 ram... = $~65 with discount... Add a floppy... $~15 with discount... Hum...

No 7900GT either...

Would you still buy a dell?

Its for my dad FYI, since he has the discount.

depends what the final price is. If it was 4000$ down to 2000$ i still couldnt afford it...

If it was a sh1tty build but included a 2405 or 3007, sure!

This made me laff. I've been building PC's since 286 days... and although I'm running a build SFF, I upgraded the "family" PC to a dimension a while back because I was too lazy to research. I'm now a Dell Dad :-(

Even worse, the 5100 I picked up from Dell refubs won't support 8 or 9 series dual cores.

There be yer lesson right there. Get dumb & lazy, buy dell, regret, .... , profit?

I already own three, buying another wouldn't be a problem. One of those nice ultraportable Latitudes would be nice.

No... But only because I've seen what Dell has to offer in terms of REAL discounts...

Buy a few thousand top end Optiplex systems with LCD's every year, get a killer service plan, be a non-profit organization (in other words, be a university), and they will DROP THEIR PANTS for you.

Dell 1707FP 17" LCD (normally $203) = $186. But they often have coupons better than that, you say...

Optiplex GX620 (normally $2002 as configured) = $867. Eight hundred and sixty-freakin' seven dollars.

Hum... well...

an XPS 400 w/ a 2007FPW will be on its way 🙂...

7900GS
250 GB space
2 GB ram
DVD Burner

Woo...

and 3 year warranty (which I hope but more than likely won't go smoothly.)

depends, dell marks it up to mark it down. they're the masters of making you think you're getting a good deal when, in actuality, you're paying $50 more than you would have last week.

Ah, the illusion that coupons make things cheaper.

Wooo...

$30 for a floppy
$20 more for a 13 in 1 media reader.
$200 for a 7900 GS
$130 for DDR 533 ram 2 GB
$200 more for a 2007FPW
$200 more for an Intel Pentium D 3.2 GHz...
$100 more for a XtremeMusic
$30 more for 2.1 speakers.
$25 more for multimedia keyboard
$10 more for an optical mouse (WTF)

And...

yeah...

I'm not paying for it... I'm not going to use it... But I sure did probably save my dad a lot of money on his car insurance (not... I will jack it up :laugh😉.

They know most higher education institutions are on a 3-5 year upgrade cycle 😉

"Well sh|t, Dell gave us 65% off last time, let's just reorder from them..." 😀

That's how it works at my school. 😛

inspired by my thread maybe??

lol u already knew my answer
and basically they suck to upgrade unless assuming he always will have that discount and can buy they overpriced upgrade parts for a resonable price

You're damn right I would. Dell uses the same parts with the same warranties that you'd find online anyway. You can bypass their tech support on most issues if you know anything. Hell, hardware problems are rare anyway, so odds are you won't have to bother with anything. The people who said no on the poll are either stuck up or can't possibly deal with the tech support (or the ugly case).

For a 50% discount, hell yeah I'd go with Dell. Weren't they going to start making AMD/ATI computers soon? I heard a rumor.
