If we don't get to choose, then I would say the chances would be pretty good for it to land on somebody I don't care about. Yes I would probably do it.

Yes. Except I wouldn't really want to wish my misfortunes onto my kids, or grandkids. But that's only a few out of the billions of people around - less than the chance of winning the lottery. Heck, that's even less than the chances of similar disasters happening to them anyway.

So, yes, and I'll take my chances.
