When I was a kid growing up in western Mass, my best friend's grandfather was reputed to be one of the local mob bosses. Owned a wide variety of construction companies and other businesses, always had a slew of long, black Cadillacs at the house, and there were always "mountains in suits" patrolling the grounds around his house. When there would be some kind of "special affair" going on, there often were plain, unmarked government cars driving around, and you'd sometimes see them taking pictures of the house and cars.
Was he actually a gangster? Dunno...(we moved when I was in the 5th grade) but most of the people in the neighborhood seemed to think so.
