If you check Steam you'll notice Doom just got a 34 GB update.

I re-downloaded it about 3 months back and it was an 80GB download then. How much is it now? I was already appalled at the 80gig download.

it won't be 34 Gb bigger. They will probably be replacing some old files and adding new ones. I think.

But hey, maybe it is 114GB now?

So we need to download a 32GB update to make it smaller in total size? yeah that makes sense.
That happens with a crapload of games on Steam. They delete a bunch of inefficiently packed files and replace them with more efficient stuff. But of course that still requires downloading.

Sure it does. Most patches likely slipstream into other files but if they improved something that gave a smaller install footprint but required redownloading the entire file instead of just the difference you would need to download big files for a smaller install.

Never played MP as it was panned as kind of meh, wonder how much DLC they even sold?

Noticed it a few days ago but didn't bother checking the install size. Downloaded fast enough so whatever.

DOOM is on a free weekend, not sure many people are willing to download over 70GB for a day or two.

That is a massive sized game, Halo 5 is well over 80GB as well and ate up a good chunk of HDD on my Xbox One.
