okay, you have:

600 mhz cpu
256 ram
geforce2 mx --32mb video card

you can upgrade one of the components, to one of the choices below:

1.2 mhz cpu
256 more ram to have total of 512
radeon 8500 video card

which would you choose? i know that it really depends on what you're doing with your computer but i'm just asking for a personal preference...

Processor. Athlon XP 1600+!!

EDIT: If you're really on a budget, a Duron 1.2ghz should serve you well

Rivergater, of the three choices you listed go for a processor upgrade; upgrading you video card w/ your present system will not yield too much in ters of performance and the RAM upgrade would be questionable depending on the OS you are running as you did not state that in your post. Hope this helps :)

I'd go for the processor out of those three... Then I might get a new HDD, if yours isn't 7200rpm... You have enough RAM and your vid card is fine for now...

What chipset supports both 600 Mhz and 1.2 Ghz processors? Have they made Socket A processors as low as 600 Mhz? Perhaps a very early Duron? I can't see how he can upgrade to 1.2 Ghz without upgrading the motherboard, also.

you'll get a lot more out of a new processor than you will out of a new vid card, and a lot more out of a new vid card than you will out of more ram!

or split the difference and go to ~1Ghz and a DDR GF2 like the GTS-V...
