Go back to one of the times when our population was extremely small, see what religion was prominent at that time, and do away with that religion.
That'd probably have some interesting impacts on the future.



(Or whatever they would have had at the time. I'm sure they would have had some interesting ideas as to what mythical creatures had made nature go all psychotic.)

No, if you REALLY look around the world Christianity is very much in the running for which one is the biggest piece of shit. We live in a Jesus-freak country, so the Islamic atrocities are played up and the Christianity atrocities don't get mentioned. Historically Christianity has been FAR FAR FAR worse than Islam, now Islam is beginning to narrow the gap a bit.

Atheists convince other people to lose their faith, which I suppose is the worst thing imaginable for a Christian - it's better to kill a person than kill their faith.

On the other hand, a lot of Christians seem a much more comfortable with people who believe in something, anything, no matter how little it has to do with Christian salvation. Maybe because it's easier to move from one irrational belief in the supernatural to another one.

Sure, absolutely, the blame doesn't lie squarely on religion, no arguments there. I was getting at why someone would choose getting rid of atheism vs. something that has been the cause of untold amounts of violence and suffering. It is amazing what levels of barbarism we can achieve when we're sure we have the almighty on our side and our otherwise terrible deeds are deemed just thanks to the divine. Killing is bad, wrong. Killing for god is moral.

Just have the Eqyptian or Hittite Civilizations destroy the Israelites. You could have some rural raiding or urban terrorism by the Israelites as the spark that influences the massive empires to destroy the Israelites.

If it means everyone becomes an atheist or at best agnostic then I'd do Christianity. Almost entirely removing religion from our political discourse in this country would be amazing.
