What's stopping anyone from claiming being too poor and get away with murder? Or any crimes?

For obvious reasons poor people are unlikely to contract affluenza.
For obvious reasons no one can contract affluenza....IT'S NOT REAL

That little prick needs to be shot, followed shortly thereafter by his parents:colbert:

Cliffs:
16 year old drinks and drives and kills 4 people
Family is rich
Gets off with 10 years probation because he has "affluenza"

Our justice system is broken and driven by influence of money.

This is not a news flash.

Look at all the housing crap that went down past few years. ALL the rich got away with it and companies got a slap on the wrist (IF that).

Not 1 person in jail, not ONE.

Not the first or last.

Being poor is a very serious crime in this country. You should be grateful we allow them the opportunity to flip burgers first when we should probably ship them off the prison right off the bat and have them do good work for a local struggling business/corporation for pennies on the dollar.

Not exactly true:

More may be coming eventually. And the reason why many haven't been put in jail is that many didn't actually break the law. While there may have been some shady schemes employed with the derivatives, that doesn't make them illegal. Besides, ultimately the biggest blame for the housing bubble bursting was the greedy bastards in the middle class who bought houses they couldn't afford in hopes of turning them around relatively quickly for a good profit. Once they started defaulting on those loans it was a domino effect. It's just much easier, and guilt absolving, for people to point at the rich and scream "Those BASTARDS! It's all their fault!"

The same judge sentenced a 14 year old poor black kid to 10 years because he punched a guy to death - rightly so.. but pales to what this wealthy white kid got for killing 4 people. That affluenza is a serious stuff
