If you buy everything online w/out tax, it's like giving yourself a 5-10% raise

Sumthin like that.

Friend worked for a puter shack. He'd buy parts at like 8% over cost, and the money would be taken out of his check BEFORE taxes. Added up to a decent discount.

True, if you don't count shipping. For large items, shipping is often less than tax. But for small stuff tax is a lot less.

but if you buy from an online store that's located in california (since that's where you are), you'll still be charged the sale tax regardless if you buy online or not. and many online stores seem to be located in california, from my experience.

Or, if you don't buy anything, it's like a 100% raise! (At least that's what the wife would have me believe.)

Being the amazing home economist that I am, I factor in many things. (Being the wife of an engineer type has definitely rubbed off on me!)

If I buy it local, how much time and gas will it use? Is it worth it to get into traffic in one of the states that has the worst road rage in the country? Hmmmmmm.

What are the shipping costs and return policies? If I can return it locally, like at Old Navy, it works in my favor.

Is it a bargain or at least a very competitive price to begin with?

Ah yes, the art and science of shopping.
