If you bring your tower somewhere and they have a smaller monitor, how to change the res back (it's all screwy)?

I'm at my cousin's... I have my Win98 setup runnign fine, as it was easy to get the res set back to a reasonable level (14" 800x600 here, 15" 1280x1024 home)... But, Win2K is being a real P-I-T-A!

I had 1154x864 or whatever that res is, in Win2K. I tried navigating my way to display properties, etc.. but I couldn't do it, it was too screwy. In Win98 I was using 1024, so it was easy to fix it (I could still make things out).

Is there any way to get my res down? I tried going into safe mode to change it, but it was back up when I booted up normally.

I don't get it, that's the purpose of safemode. Or wait Win2K....NT... try using /vga mode

I want to be able to boot normally and it work normally, not operate under crippled 'modes'.

Well, I removed my video driver, hoping that when I reboot it would try to detect a new one. But no, it just doesn't boot now.

In Win 2000, if it still works like NT, boot up in VGA. Then go into your display properties and change the resolution to something that works with the monitor. Then reboot....

I can't boot at all, in any mode. WTF IS THIS! I KILLED MY DAMN 2K SETUP!!

Sorry for being drunk and not reading the whole post. Try this; Hold down <insert> while pressing the power button on. Hold the insert button til you get past the BIOS screen. If that doesn't work, try clearing the CMOS by shorting the jumper, or unplugging the battery.

Go to safe mode, change display driver to Standard VGA. Boot in normal mode, you'll be in 640x480. Then change back to your normal video driver and whatever res floats your boat.

you can try memorizing the keystrokes to changing resolution.
next time change before you leave.
