If you break something on purpose, fix it. Own up to it.

People are obviously very stupid when it comes to expecting reimbursement on an item that they either accidently or purposely damaged.

If you break something and it was YOUR fault, own up to it and fix it yourself.

Dropping your laptop/ipod/whatever and breaking it and then expecting the manufacturer to fix it is incredibly assish of you.

The reason I bitch about it is because I've had a few people with iPods that I've repaired that seem to think that I'm liable for replacing a hard drive in their iPod when they clearly have dropped it or caused some sort of abuse to it since it no longer works.

Trust me, I've owned many ipods over the years, and I know what kills them and what happens to them. I've never personally had any problems with them because I take care of my valuables.

Don't expect me to fork over damn near $100 just because you can't hold on to your damn iPod and dropped it and it died. It's not my fault.

Yes because I love to advertise the fact that I fix iPods...

I'm simply relating the fact that I read the post about that idiot damaging his laptop and expecting dell to fix it. People have pulled this same crap on me with iPods. (oh damn I said it again, someone call the iPod police... crap!)

The fact that I have iPods in my sig has nothing to do it with.

Thanks for being an asshat!

So you're saying that ipods aren't like crystal glass and break all on there own or just by looking at then funny?

Hmm, I think I need to have a talk with someone.

Thanks for proving my point 🙂

I dunno man, you are in a business that requires warranty of worksmanship. If you can't afford to provide something like 90 days on parts/labor why don't you post a disclaimer that says you guarantee the device will work upon receipt and they have 48 hours to report any problems?

/edit also, I hope this isn't a sole-proprietorship or some other business structure that allows for unlimited liability, cause really the last thing that you need is someone going after your personal assets because they are stupid.

what if they buy the accidental damage warranty from dell?

if you say teh word ipod one more time you might get some customers. dont forget to reiterate that you fix them. if you can slip your pricing in there somehow that'd be pretty impressive

Wait, does the OP fix iPods?

I do agree though. Nice people who don't lie and try to get help get way more sympathy than people who just lie and expect renumeration.

iPods are fragile. All it takes is dropping the iPod once or twice and that's it, it can die because of toshiba's crappy manufacturing.

I test my parts for hours on end. I verify EVERYTHING on an iPod before it goes out. If the customer receives it and verifies it works and then 2 months later comes back to me and says something is wrong with it, how do I know they didn't drop it 50 times.

I can't financially take a $90 on a new part plus $80 I lost on the original part that went in the iPod in the first place.

That's different I guess... they paid to be a dumbass and obviously knew that at some point they couldn't walk without tripping and or slamming the lid of an LCD after losing a game of poker....

Wow, you don't sound anything like the Maytag repairmen guy...maybe you're in the wrong line "o Business.

That's what you get when you try to make money off of fixing Ipods for assholes.

I agree mostly with your post, however manufacturers should still be held accountable for their products to have a basic level of tolerance for accidents that are very likely to occur. I don't think one can deny that most people have dropped their MP3 player or cellphone, once or twice. Thus, these products should be built so that they would survive a level of abuse that would very likely to occur in the span of its usage. How often have you seen a cellphone dropped? And how often have you seen one breaking from the droppage? I've personally never seen a cell phone that broke from being dropped.

How do you know they "clearly" have dropped it or caused some sort of abuse. How do we not know that it's shotty workmanship from a non certified third party? Unless you have proof they've caused harm, it's just as likely that your workmanship (or lack there of) is also the cause.

Also, couldn't have this stayed in the other thread than you try to promote your services? You were saying what you needed in the other thread....why post it again????

How is this post promoting my services?

I'm simply bitching about something a guy posted in another thread. I interpreted my own experiences dealing with assholes like that who expect things getting fixed. No where am I promoting anything except the whole ipod thing is in my sig. That's it.

That's like attention whore dartworth promoting free hosting. Sure, he's giving away free hosting, however he expects to get some form of revenue out of it, otherwise he wouldn't do it, simple fact.

I was simply ranting, in no way promoting my services. I never said in my main post "HEY EVERYONE, USE MY FRICKEN iPOD FIXING SERVICES"...

Reading comprehension & ATOT readers = pathetic.

Have you ever dropped a toshiba 1.8" hard drive that's made for laptops or iPods? Have you ever dropped a hitachi microdrive / seagate st1 microdrive?

If not, you don't know how unreliable they are, please don't question it. Last time I checked phones do not have hard drives in them.

I accidently dropped an iPod mini that I bought off of ebay and it was working and after one drop the microdrive died. I got it running again, however it couldn't be reused due to bad sectors (I don't sell hard drives with bad sectors... they're a sign the hard drive will die at some point).

If I thouroughly test a hard drive (load the capacity of music on to it) do an iPod HD scan, do a sector check through the hard drive, and do these tests multiple times, I assume it's good. If a customer gets the iPod and it works, I know it survived shipment. If they ask me two or 3 months later, I'm just going to assume they did something to it, because I've never seen a hard drive damaged from using it properly (a portable one).

sorry to be "off topic", but i was in the apple store today with my bro...and i just hate the fact that people come in to buy ipods and NOT look at anything else apple offers. its ridiculous.

Reading comprehension? Are you retarded or something? This has nothing to do with anyones ability to READ. This has to do with you creating a new topic and talking about your "services" or "problems". It should have stayed in the same thread. There was no need to start another one, other than free promotion.

I find it very interesting you didn't even comment on your possible shotty workmanship. For some reason you have customers who you "know" must be breaking their products. Very interesting.

At least the customers know if they have problems a month or so down the road that it's automatically their fault! I mean they had to have dropped it or abused it! Awesome customer service and supporting your services.
