If you bought stolen hardware???

Say you bought a piece of stolen hardware and it ended up being stolen BUT you
didn't know that.

Then what happens? What happens if you bought it months ago and already re-sold it??

I buy lots of things off the net like other forum members do. And now this is the 1st time I'm having to go through something like this. It was likely off this forum too, or fleabay. Will find out more details when I get to read the letter.

Basically I'm pi$$ed big time cuz someone sold me a hot piece and now a PD wants it back because their investigating the guy. Well I might not have it!!

Anyone have advice for me? I can't think of what it would be. Maybe an older laptop? or older laptop part? or mp3 player ( doubt it ), or dell axim?? those are about the only major purchases I've made lately. I'll find more details out tonight when I read the letter.

If you already off loaded it and they can't prove you knew or should have know it was stolen I think you are no longer responisble. If you still have it then it has to be given back to the rightful owner and you don't get your money back.

I was once caught with a hot bike that I traded for pokemon cards (did not know it was hot) and I got a posession of stolen goods on my record. It will disapear when I am 18. I had no charges against me or anything.

ok thanks. I might still have it but might not. I always end up reselling a bunch of my things because I always buy too much!! you know how it is when you see a good deal and can't resist the urge.

likely i might have even put it on my CC. Would that help? I know lots of cc companies have
fraud protection and crap. If its a forum member then I will be making a troll post soon. 🙁

Just be careful. The person that sold it to you may be in the same situation you are. You don't want to point fingers and call someone a troll. That is not the kind of thing people around here forget.

If I call the PD and their investigating the same guy I bought it from, then I am going to call him a troll and make a thread. plain and simple. I'm not taking heat for some thief. I already might have to cough up an item that I paid legit money for.

Let me clarify what I am saying.

Let's say that the person who sold you whatever the item in question is purchased that item from someone prior to selling it to you. The person that you bought the item from would not neccesarily know that the item was stolen.

Imagine if you sold the item in question to someone else and THEY were the one's that got the letter that you got. How would you feel if they accused you, on a public forum, of selling stolen goods when YOU didn't know they were stolen.

I agree that, if this person sold you something that he/she KNEW was stolen, they deserve to be called a troll. But it might not be as simple as that.
