Do you better by a HDTV ready TV? There is a mandate where all programming should be in digital by 2007.
BUT, HDTV ready TVs are expensive.

I am looking for 27"-32" TV in $400-$600. Can anybody recommend one? Or should I care more for the inputs?

Who cares as long as it will take progressive scan and have at least 2 component inputs

well.. to take advantage of progressive scan you would need HDTV..

for that price range, look into Samsung 27"

I believe there are ones where it has HDTV feature hidden :)

Keep in mind that the digital broadcast mandate does not mean that all broadcasts will be HD (high definition), just digital. If you have digital cable right now, there are plenty of digital channels which are still standard definition (4:3).

LOL...someone just got misinformed by the clerk at BB

The FCC says that all companies have to be broadcasting HD by 2006. Not that 100% of programming has to be HD. There are already converter boxes available. When the time comes, I am sure cable companies will provide the equipment needed to downgrade HD to a normal set.

EDIT: In that pricerange, look at the 32" Cinema Series Toshiba. Retail is around $599 and it is a great set. Invest a couple hundred more and pick up the 30" Samsung HD set if you want HD.

I'm getting a new TV this year but I've decided not to get an HDTV.

I don't want to buy a tuner + antenna because there is little OTA HD Content around me and Charter Cable doesn't offer any HD Channels here either (not that I'd want to pay extra anyway).

Satellite is not an option because I'm in an apartment that faces the wrong way.

Not to mention that I don't watch DVDs that often anymore and most of the TV I watch is from my Replay which isn't HD anyway.

No point in paying for something I'm not gonna use for a long time anyway. I'll just upgrade when it's all cheaper and more mainstream.

Edit: I'm getting a Toshiba 36" Flatscreen.

Well, if you really want HDTV compatibility...folks are saying you'll need a TV with a DVI-HDCP interface that all the new HDTV cable boxes/satellite boxes will be using for encrypted programming.
