Lightroom mainly with Photoshop CS4 and some Nik Filters (ColorEfex, Dfine, and Viveza). I went back and forth between Aperture and Lightroom and ultimately settled on LR2 since I can do some basic pixel based touchups without the need for additional plugins. I had a real hard time doing that in Aperture ...

for example .. in LR I can quickly whiten teeth using the Adjustmet Brush with AutoMask .. I brush the teeth and then reduce the saturation of that area only. I couldn't for the life of me find a way to do that in Aperture without pushing to photoshop. I also found LR was much faster than Aperture on my MBP

I use mostly LR2 (tons of presets), with CS4 for heavy work (topaz filter + noise ninja). When needed I use Autopano Pro for Panos and photomatix for HDR.

For anyone using LR, here is 600 free presets.

Haven't tried focus stacking yet, would like to learn though.

What do people use for photo hosting? Preferable free, :).

ACDSee for viewing and general management.

Corel Photo Paint 11 for editing.

Way back in my wild days I had cracked versions of all the latest Adobe stuff, and more.
Then I got wise.

Now I just use the most reasonably priced legit software I can find. Have been using ACDSee ever since I found the 95 version for free on a photo disc. That disc is LONG gone but I still have the copy of ACDSee 95 somewhere on my system. Am currently using the latest version. People scoff at it, I have no idea why. Its extremely fast for viewing, even huge RAW and NEF files popup quickly.

Have been using Corel Photo Paint since the Win 3.1 days. Its also pretty fast with just about every tool it has. I know where to find anything I need. It does plenty of advanced stuff too, you just have to know where to find the tools.

re-ressurecting this old thread.

- Gimp (just clean installed Win7 RC and don't care to install PSPX2. I haven't been impressed with PSP in years)
- Win7 Photo Gallery for real simple fixes, tagging, emailing, uploading and organizing...and the stitching tool is pretty fantastic.
- Either Rawshooter essentials 2006 or (hopefully) DPP.

on a side note: It's so irritating that Canon requires the original software CD that came with the camera, for validation, to install their updated software. I mean, anyone who's installing this stuff is obviously working with Canon's RAW format. I have the 300D, and lost that disc years ago. Grrrr....now I gotta find a friend with the damn CD.

Thumbs Plus - file management, simple adjustments
Photoshop - clean up
MS Paint - once in awhile it is just the thing
Real Draw - raster/vector editor, for turning photos into web graphics it is hard to beat.
PhotoTracks - My own creation for geotagging

I do agree it's friggin annoying to require the CD in order to install. As you say, if you're installing the Canon software, you're obviously working with Canon RAW files and Canon is thereby making money or already made money on you and it doesn't cost them much extra to let you download and use updated software.

I haven't checked the Canon software CD that came with my 50D (been busy) but I'll give it a look and assuming there is no fancy schmancy protection and it's not too large, I can probably make a disc image and upload it. In fact, I'm probably going to do that anyways and see if the software can be installed by using a mounted disc image. That way I can keep a back up copy on a HD or somewhere else.

That'd be a great way to make sure you're not screwed because you lost the original discs. I mean I can't be the only one who has lost tons of original install discs for various products over the years. It's not like original game discs or other software discs like Photoshop, PowerDVD, etc. where you known you'll need the discs.

Little help here?

I have Paint.net and Elements 7.0 on my machine. Not real good with any of it but I am learning.

My wife's laptop has Photoshop 5.0 and a suite that some guy that was trying to mack on our daughter gave her. She was working on a web site at the time and he or someone he knows works at Adobe.
I can't find the box but the programs listed in Program Files are:
Bridge
Designer 7.0
GoLive CS2
Illustrator CS2
ImageReady CS2
InDesign CS2
Photoshop CS2

I know what Photoshop is but are any of the rest imaging software?
TIA

It lists each of the applications included with CS2, with a short description.

LOL
So that's what the "CS" is.
Thanks.
