If you are a non smoker, would you date a smoker?

I grew up in a house where my parents both smoked. I absolutely hate it. If I see a really hot girl (let's say a 9) and then I see her light up a cigarette, she automatically drops into negative numbers. I could never date anyone what smokes.

I feel the same way. Why someone would hurt themselves like that . ...

I always said I wouldn't, but I just did a few months ago. She was really hot though, which seemed to compensate for it (and other things) at the time.

if she's hot... depends on her attitude. Some smoke to curb hunger... you know.. to keep thin. Then there are those who do it only to look cool. Also depends on whether they are influenceable.

As a casual smoker, I feel excluded from this poll. However I still wouldn't date a serious smoker (1-2 cigs a day at most is one thing...). If you've ever kissed someone after they've had a cigarette you'll know one more reason not to smoke.

No, because I used to smoke and would be afraid of starting back up. Further, I know firsthand the effects it has on a person and their environment - yellow walls that used to be white, raspy voice & hastened aging process over the course of years, and low physical stamina.

nope, if they want to kill themselves they can go nuts. but if they come around me with that sh!t i am not going out with them.

I don't see one positive thing about smoking. I still see young kids smoking sometimes and it amazes me that they ever started in the first place to be "cool". When did this mentality start? I thought it was ending soon but not everyone grows up smart...

I don't think it really has much to do with intelligence. I've known smokers that were brilliant and non-smokers who were complete idiots.

edit: ironic typo

I thought about posting a thread like this.

I only go out with non-smokers. I once went out with a woman who was a causual smoker. It didn't last long as I didn't like her smoking at all.

Personal preference you know.

I felt the exact same way... until I took a chance and dated a smoker. I still prefer non-smokers but I would consider dating a smoker again... depending on the person.

Smoking gets the top spot on turn offs for me. It just show a total lack of will, self control, self respect, intelligence and independence.
By independence, i mean that most smokers i know started because of peer pressure.
That s*** smells so bad. Had someone paint the outside of our house a few weeks ago. Went once inside to go to the bathroom. The smell stayed for the remainder of the day. The hotel where i work uses a ozone air purifier (Which produces a toxic gas and needs lots of airing out after use) and lots of citrus deodorant to get the smell out of the rooms. Even smokers don't like the smell of other smokers. Around here the new fad in new hotels is to make all rooms non smoking. Less work for housekeeping, maintenance (ew a yello air filter) and reception desk people (when you rent all non smoking rooms first... the next one aren't that happy, mostly the asthmatics)
Restaurants do that too; simply because people leave when there's no non smoking tables available. Every place who has turned non smoking has turned out more business in medium term (less than 3 months)

The only member in my family who has smoked stopped about 10 years ago, now has pulmonary fibrosis. He'd be probably dead by now if he hadn't stopped.

EDIT: Smokers who died because of their habit go in special hell!

depends on how clean they are.

I know chain smokers that smell really nice, and I know casual smokers who reek of the cigarette smell because they don't try and cover it up with perfume or cologne.

1) Well, I hear that your sense of taste is the first thing to go when you start smoking. On another message board I was on (with considerably more liberal mods), somebody had the bright idea of comparing spits vs swallows with smokers vs non-smokers. The results were predictable based on the above factoid.

2) Mostly irrelevant for me (even if I WAS single)...Oregon has no smoking in any public places (with the exception of a FEW - and I mean a *FEW* bars). I don't think I've seen but, maybe, 2 or 3 smokers since I've been out here.

If they smoke 4-5 cigarettes a day, it's really no biggie. My G/F smokes and I have no problems with it at all.
