If you are a licensed driver in one state, but drive to another state...

So say that one state required you to only be 16 years old to drive, but another state required you to be 18 to get your license, could the 16 year old licensed driver from the first state legally drive into the second state with the higher age requirement?

From wiki:

In all of these states, the laws which apply are those of the state in which the driver operates the motor vehicle. (Example: a 14 year-old learner's permit holder in Arkansas would have to wait until 14½ to drive in Montana, or a 16 year-old driver's license holder from West Virginia must follow all learner's permit standards for driving in Pennsylvania until he or she turns 16½).

So the legal driving age in Montana is seriously 14 1/2? WTF? I thought 1/2 years were only used by little kids.

It's probably 6 months after the kid receives his learner's permit. In PA it's 16 1/2 when you're first able to take your driver's test.

14 is way too young though.

Yup. The legal age is 14 here, restricted to daylight hours. Definately too young to drive IMO.

Is this suppose to be official?
What about vehicle inspections? If my state doesn't require them and I drive into a state that does...according to the statement above, I will get ticketed.

The laws are really BS at times:

I took Drivers Ed while living in Kansas and started driving at either 15 1/2 or 16. I moved to New York (Long Island) when I was 17. After 30 days I was unable to legally drive. The reason was that you can only be a probationary driver at 17 in New York. In order to be that you have to have taken De within the prior two years. I had passed DE OVER two years before, so my drivers ed certificate was invalid, despite the fact that I had been driving for years. My choices were to either wait six months until I turned 18 or to spend something like $500 to retake drivers ed.

God I hate NY. The whole state should just fall into the ocean one of these days.

14 is fine because its Montana. If you lost control of your vehicle, you wouldn't hit anything for miles.

I was living in Arkansas when I got my learner's permit at 14 (way back in 1988...sigh). My parents bought me a 50cc Honda scooter, and I went in to get my license for that any my learner's. What's funny is that they gave me an actual driver's license as if I were 16. Of course, my parents never let me drive a car until I was 16, but it was neat having it.
