IF XGI really comes through, how do you think ATI/Nvidia will respond?

How do I think they'll respond? I'm not sure, but I think that if XGI does what it claims so far, then ATI and Nvidia will price accordingly to XGi on a performance level, that or concentrate more and more on image quality to try and become better in that area. Do you think ATI/Nvidia will try introducing better cooling methods so they can raise the clock speeds?

nVidia: By releasing they're still unfinished next gen beta cards that are buggier than the FX line.

ATi: Releasing some nice high quality cards that actually do work. take same steps as nVidia, trash image quality to the point of stupidity, and increase FPS mucho.

XGI: Sit back and laugh

I hope Anand or some other reputable site benches these graphics cards, it certainly would be nice if they are competitive! We need a third option and with the way Nvidia is fumbling about, we may even need a second option.

I do hope Nvidia comes back with something decent. If not, they may be better off leaving the desktop GPU market...

I predict nvidia will go down, xgi will go up, ati buys nvidia, ati goes down, some company goes up, xgi buys ati, and so on

just so it will be obvios that 3dfx is a virus

I dont think they will do anything and go about "buisness as usual" Ati and Nivdia both have an established consumer and OEM base to draw-off of. now if this card really smokes the current offering s of ATI and Nivida then they might try and ramp things up but I dont think that there will be much of a difference in performance, and even if the XGI cards are cheaper ppl will still be wary of buying into new tech till drivers mature and editorials are released

That is very true, because the largest consumer base is the average home user, not everyone knows as much as those who read about the cards so they may just go with Nvidia/ATI

True, they do, its kind of like Intel. They both have brand recognition. I won't go any further in fear of flame, hehe

Let's see how the drivers are. I'm guessing this is where they will suffer.

To give you an idea, I wouldn't touch any XGI products for the first few months just to see what the stability and drivers are like. Afterwards I may take a the plunge if they are clearly better than both ATI and nVidia at whatever price point I'm looking at. I'd recommend the same to any non-techie friend who asked

I think that and the actual speed are two of the biggest things right now for them because of all the driver issues that have been going around and of course be able to match in terms of speed, or be far ahead in terms of quality.
