If this forum used different software, would you still be here?

I was here for the great JRUN errors. .NET errors. Premium subscription service, less ads, different color scheme. I was here before the cookie emoticon, before P&N was created, when you got an email for every single thread update. I remember when we didn't have a Buddies list. I remember when there were a lot more mods with different personalities. I remember Anandtech's nice PC themed logo. I remember when I was the newb.

A lot of has changed here, but enough has stayed the same that I, and we, continue to stay here. But I'm wondering - how much is that because of our members, how much is that because of the theme of the site, how much is it because we get comfortable with Fusetalk forum?

Let's take a poll.

Is this different software better or worse than the current software?

I'm just here for some halfway intelligent converstion... and some completely brainless converstion too of course :)

Frankly the software and layout is not that good. I wish someone would create a programming forum and rewrite the search function. Hell - I'll rewrite the search function, I'll do it for free.

:D What I mean is, instead of Fusetalk - something like phpBB, vBulletin, InvisionBoard, SimpleMachines, etc.

The forum software is a means to an end in my book. As long as it's functional, I'm fine with it.

i don't care either way. i like the political banter in P&N, the IQ lowering ability of OT, and the deals in FS/T. if anything changed i would still come back.

As long as the software is halfway decent, I'd be here. If they switched it to something with lots of flashy lights and signatures with images and gifs I'd definetly limit my time here. The software isnt why I'm here, its the community(tear).

And you haven't been here that long youngin.

I like SimpleMachines, personally. But, as sad as it is to say, I'm here for the content (and the fact that there's enough people that it doesn't really slow down too much).
I originally came here for Hot Deals, though.

I've been here through it all, so I wouldn't leave. Of course, I would actually PREFER they switched software. I'm not a fusetalk fan. Something with a working search engine would be nice.

i am also in several other forums that yse other software. i like FuseTalk cause there's no flashy images and annoying links in the sig. OTOH, i miss the better search capability of other software. i did come here for the community rather then ATOT or FS/FT.

I really, really, really liked the DCForums software that was current a few years back. I posted on another forum that used it, and the threaded style was excellent. The latest incarnations leave much to be desired, though. I've always preferred threaded-style forums to bulletin-board or linear-style, and it never ceases to perplex me that so few forums use it.

No one ever wins the "join date" battles. There's always someone out there.

If they started adding custom avatars, pictures in the signatures and other junk, I would likely leave.

I like FuseTalk. I just wish it had a working search function.

I actually like Fusetalk. I just wish they'd fix the bugs and add some new features.

The FS/T forum brought me here, and when I ran out of money, I stayed for the OT.
