I had an idea for this where basically for different races you would progress like they would in the real 40k universe.

I.E if you wanted to be a SM you would start off as a kid on a recruitment planet and you would have to compete with other players to survive/make it into being an SM. Your char would have a good chance to die during this period and if you do you will have to create another char and re-do. This makes it so that it will be difficult/time consuming for a player to become an SM.

For IG you would go through regular IG training but you would be much weaker physically but you would have numbers on your side with either real players or npcs to help you at all times.

This would only be early game and then once you're at the point where you are fit for traveling between planets then you could do missions for your faction. It would be a massive MMO game that encompasses many different types of games, fps, rts, space sim, etc.

Would be awesome but probably too complex to ever develop.

Also death would be a permanent thing though your items will still exist in the universe on your body till someone finds it and can use it/trade it

Edit: almost forgot BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! :awe:

I was thinking about this some more and I have thought of a way that it could (plausibly) work, but not under current technology. Remember, shooter, not RPG...anyway, if we had a game where a server is populated by thousands and thousands of AI soldiers per planet/ship etc, then players could be the 5% that are Space Marines. There could still be shooter PvP, but you'd be the SMs alongside AI weaker units. That way, human players would not be forced to be weak units. I would love to see an MMOFPS that simulates an intergalactic war, and where human players can jump into any not-already-controlled AI unit. Imagine you go into a battle with 300 live human player space marines and 5000 infantry(Imperial Guard? I haven't played the game OR read books yet). OK, you die, you can either respawn as a SM in accordance with whatever the game design is, or you can assume control of any living IG soldier wherever they are at that moment.

And remember, this may be AI controlled, but it's a shooter war, not a WoW version of WH40k, because your enemies could be 300 chaos marines and 5000 of whatever their infantry is. You cut them down with twitch gameplay, not high hit points and spells...they just happen to be a lot of AI.

Of course, AI isn't currently anywhere near that level, and if it were, we'd probably need the hardware tech of 2030 to run it.

something like planetside 2 could be great, but completely PVE ... all the players vs all the IA aliens

we were going to get a wh40k MMO until THQ went broke.

DOW series and Space marine were good games.

I wish they would make a wh40k mmo, either planetside style or RPG style.
