Green Bean, you are talking nonsense. Iran is in no position militarily or economically to ever exert influence over the mideast aside from the limited proxy terrorist war it wages against Israel today. The Sunnis of Pakistan have nothing but disdain for Iranians and Persians, do you seriously think they'd sit back and let Iran gain a foothold into Iraq and possibly Afghanistan if the US magically left? Afghanistan is Pakistan ISI's playground, if Iran stepped out of line they'd get crushed by the beloved patriot military and the millions of armed Pashtuns. This idea of a Muslim caliphate is just a fantasy perpetuated by idealists that believe somehow Muslims would get along because they share a common religion--the stark reality of the world today proves otherwise. Fact is every country has it's own interests and no country would sit back and let another one become more influential and/or powerful in their backyard simply because they share a common religion.
Who said they will invade Iran? Talibanised Afghanistan would join as a semi autonomous state within the empire.
