If the sun were to suddenly disappear...

Assuming it is daytime and sunny and ignoring the obvious gravitational disturbances if the sun were to actually disappear...

What will we see in the sky here on earth?

I mean how long are we going to see the light for?

I'll add a poll soon.

What do you see at night?

Everything would go black and it would get really freaking cold.

Canadians would be alright, cause we're used to it. I don't know about the rest of you though...

😛

Wonder what kind of jolt we'd all feel when the earth stopped orbiting and just took off through space until we crashed into something else.

it would be night time indefinitely.

How did you reach this conclusion!?!?!?!?!??

i figured it out in kindergarten. When the sun isnt shining on the earth its night time. Sun stops shining on earth altogether then its night time indefinitely. not rocket science.

We would all freeze to death before we noticed the lack of light.

huh? lack of sunlight is going to some how stop electricity to our homes and erradicate our atmosphere instantly within a days time?

You forgot the more obvious flaw: the heat is still coming in for as long as the light comes in. How could we freeze while the sun's heat is still reaching us?

that is what i was wondering

funny how i had a dream about this......but the earth was being swallowed up by the sun.....so i guess it's a little different. it was interesting how all the media reacted, and i was in this control room and suddenly "bang".

but about the disappearence, we would have heat for a while and gradually cool.....we still have greenhouse effect. and geothermal heat from within the earth.....then prolly be revolving around jupiter, or be sucked into it....

That's silly. The sun shines on the earth day or night; the only difference is the amount of exposure. Also, the concept of night only exists relative to day, so technically it's not night... just dark.
