But to be serious, I think even if you took away guns, go Thanos and snap your fingers they're gone instantly, America would still have a higher violence rate (as in, per capita) than other similar countries. Not to say that it wouldn't have no effect - it absolutely would, and quite significantly so - but what I mean to say is that our current levels of violence point to deeper social/cultural issues as to why these things happen so often.

And for what it's worth, I'm not saying to do nothing

I was talking to a relative on the phone the other day about our pansy governor and Californians crowding on to beaches and his namby pamby speech about how we will open soon when the worst of the danger passes. The wuss. He should send the national guard in helercopters and gun down everybody out there on the sand and in the surf. You want to catch and carry and then discharge a deadly weapon on an unsuspecting population in a no carry state, you should be shot where you stand. The second ammendment is there to defend yourself against people not wearing masks and flouting distancing rules. Stand your ground.

Even if "violence" rate stayed the same, there would be less deaths.
