Does it affect the information stored? I know that for CDs, if the label side is scratched then it's gone, but I seem to remember that DVDs have their information stored between plastic layers?

I bought a used game from a rental place and was a bit too aggressive trying to take their sticker off.

Label? You mean the non dye side? Probably ok. One fairly reliable way to test it is to put it into your computer.

By label I mean the side that's not shiny, with stuff printed on it.

It's a PS2 game and it loads, but the scratch area is very small, and is all the way through the label so that i can see shiny stuff underneath, so it could be that the game doesn't need that area simply to load.

dvds are sandwiched between two layers of plastic. you can scratch the top all you want, it won't make a difference. cd's on the otherhand...

dvd are more sensitive to scratch then a cd. because it's 7 times more density it will likely have problems reading. a cd on the other hand is more tolerable but the top do scratch easier.
