If the holes in case for fan measure 2" x 2", what size fan do I need?

Well 2" is about 5cm, so you'd be better off with a 60mm, or 50mm.

50mm seems to be slightly less than 2" whereas 60mm is over 2" so I think 50mm is the way to go right???

50mm is the size you want, if you want the fan to be the same size as the hole.

I just picked up a couple super-quiet 50mm Adda's from here. Can't even hear them turning. Of course, the quieter they are the less air they move, so make sure you still hae enough airflow for the device. For a case fan it won't make too big of a difference. For a CPU fan it will.
