If the gov't gave you a get out of tax free card

Rules:
-This card absolves you from having to pay taxes for one year.
-Card is non-transferrable and does not expire, either you use it or you don't.
-You can't find a loophole to abuse it such that you could become rich immediately. Assume you live your life normally knowing you have the choice to not pay taxes for a year.

Would you use it immediately or would you save it for later? Each has its pros and cons. Use it now and you could potentially have made thousands over time as the interest compounds(or nothing if you blew it on lavish spending). Or would you save it just in case you win the lottery or come across a windfall of cash?

Personally I threw in that third option because even at my annual gross of ~70k, I can't help but feel I'd be wasting it if I used it.

Agreed. I mean, this is totally inconsistent to the many realistic and catch phrase-free situations that are frequently discussed in ATOT.

I'm not sure what the IRS is doing handing these cards out but I doth protest!

now that we are discussing imaginary situations ..why not get rid of taxes entirely ... govt can print their own money 😀

I'd wait until my wife and I's 401k's matured in 35 years and then cash them out completely without paying a dime in taxes.
