I have a Gigabyte GA-5AA, using the F3 BIOS. If I update to F6, will it mess up Windows 2000 so that I have to reinstall?
TIA

The bios only effects how the mobo will operate, what CPU's can work in it, etc. It has nothing to do with your operating system that you have installed on the HD's.

If you mess up a bios however, it possibly make the mobo not work anymore.

Ok, thanks. I thought it might be like changing the mb, which everyone knows that Windows 2000 hates it when one does that. And yes, I know all the standard cautions: don't do it during a thunderstorm, don't turn off the power, don't touch it while it's in the process, etc.

Only thing that could is if you switched the ACPI/APM setting. When Win2K is installed, it loads a different set of kernel files, apparently, depending on if you are ACPI or not. If you were not ACPI and installed 2K and then switched to ACPI in the BIOS, Win2K would not boot and would actually have to be reloaded to get it to work. I believe ACPI is best to select during the installation for modern systems.
