OK, so the guy walks up to you, you are in the car at traffic lights, you aren't paying attention the guy opens your door (it is unlocked) grabs you pulls you out of the car, drops you on the road gets in the car, and attempts to drive away, This is the situation.

Well its pretty unlikely you'd be able to recover, stand, take aim and shoot him before he drove off.

obviously I'm an expert with the guns

Assault and Battery as well as car-jacking. I pull out my large maglite and cave-in his skull.

Is it just me or is everyone, for the past couple of pages, assuming this is a carjacking and not a thief caught in the act of stealing your car?

Just asking.

It's reasonable to assume they are happy to hurt you, not kill you. It's not reasonable to assume that someone who breaks into your house or car will happily kill you.

In the situation where you assume that you will just give everything away without resisting, sure.

But I doubt where you will ever find something requesting your property without first displaying a threat.

I suppose it is possible that you didn't think this through clearly in the beginning, and you didn't intend to troll...but you have to admit that looking back, this is nothing more than a troll. The situation is completely asinine.

and to answer the question..

If the car thief was British, eating a cookie and calling it a biscuit... then yes... i'd uzi his ass.

you are nuts

Uzi would burn through way too much ammo. With JHP's running over $1/round, I'd go with a single action Colt.

so you're assuming the driver isn't wearing their seat belt right? why wouldn't the driver be wearing their seat belt?

Yep, or the guy pressed the button and got it off you with ninja-esque reflexes.

the thing is, with someone threatening to take your car, there is a reasonably high chance that this person's life is not worth valuing over anything.

Sure, that's not always the case--desperate people do desperate things; but unless he flashes a badge and needs to commandeer my car for official use (lol--does that ever happen?? :hmm:), then I'm going to opt on the side of caution and assume as, well, anyone should assume, that my life is worth more than his life.

again, he put himself in this situation, and as most criminals understand that, they tend to be packing. so, there you go.

Try my update scenario and tell me what you think.

It's call "Self Preservation", moron. It is the most basic of all animal instincts. Nobody attacks you in a nice way or with love & sunshine in their hearts. If you are going to protect yourself you have to prepare for and expect the worst.

What if you assumed he was telling you the truth and he wasn't... and he shot you while you were being compliant? What then smart guy? Guess what. You should have assumed the worst. You'd still be alive.

So in your mind self preservation = assuming everyone is trying to kill you when they commit a crime or hurt you?!

No but people have made the jump from car thief to murderer, which is just a daft if you ask me.

you described a car jacking situation.

that never occurs without the threat of deadly force.

never.

You always assume your life is in danger in such a situation. that is how a fucking car jacker is successful.

I'm sure you could aswell. my question is should you have the right to?

Yeah the situation needed to be thought out more, as people didn't accept it, but I don't accept a poorly thought out hypothetical as "trolling"

Yes. Why? Because my car is more valuable than a thief's life. Hell, my sandwich is more valuable than a thief's life.

And yes, since he is stealing my stuff, I get to make that call.

Yes. If they attack me out of the blue, for no apparent reason and without provocation, yes.

What would you think? "Oh he's just hitting me. He'll stop soon. I just KNOW it!"

You seriously can't be this thick.

Car thief - not dead

Car jacker - VERY dead

Pretty simple. No freakishly unlikely scenarios needed.

Well I suppose at that point your life is no longer in any danger.

Assuming you have ninja reflexes and a good aim.

If you decide not to shoot him you have the inconvenience of losing your car and going through all the hassle that involves.

If you do shoot him you have to clean the brains off of the inside of your car.

Its a tough one. :hmm:

well, I suppose it depends if you have time to act.

if you do have time, and you are armed, I say draw, aim, and kindly request that he promptly vacate your vehicle or soon become acquainted with the taste of hot lead in his liver.

or pull out a bludgeon or knife or whatever you have, if you are armed, and threaten likewise.

why do you think it is wrong to defend your property?

None of what I described suggests that I value property over someone else's life. you do understand that, right?

Not all life is precious and special. Don't believe the hype.

Well I completely disagree, but each to their own.

True but I rarely measure human life in terms of inconvenience

I'm all for threatening them, but not shooting them. I'm all for defending your property, but not killing for it.

Ladies and gentlemen. This is a troll post. Please take it as an example so that in future you know what to look for when accusing me of trolling.
