If SETI@Home Classic ended tomorrow...

Personally, while I think it's a great project, I think it's time to move on to BOINC once any latent issues with it are figured out. I've seen a lot of people say "I'd love to help out other projects...Once SETI classic ends, that is." and I'm kind of hoping for a fresh start where everyone disperses out to the projects they'd like to participate in (perhaps to SETI BOINC, even).

I'd say a little of both. SETI classic is a great project with a very stable client but the cheaters have made things a little fishy as far as stats go. Can't let that ruin the fun though. Like Wiz said, SETI classic from start to finish. 🙂

One thing I'd like to thank the SETI project for is all the great people I've met and made friends with on this TeAm. Kudos to the dedicated leaders and stats reporters for making this TeAm the best one around! 🙂

Seti Classic was the first DC project I was involved with so I'm going to see it through to the end.

That said, I've dabbled with Distributed Folding, Folding@Home, D2OL and SOB. I am still active with SOB and will probably move most of my clients over there when Seti Classic comes to an end.

I'd like to echo Robor's thoughts because I would still visit the DC forum on a regular basis even if I didn't run a project. Great people here on this TeAm! 🙂

I voted cheer, but with reservations because there's always the hope of squeezing past the next milestone 🙂

I've got to read up on BOINC and what all the hoopla is about. My main system is running F@H, and my secondary does SETI@Home classic. I say SETI@Home classic should end....well, wherever this "end" is that people mention. When all the data gathered thus far is analyzed, I assume? I wish it would "end" when we dig up a signal from somewhere out there, though from what I'm reading, the chances of anyone transmitting in the first place is minimal. The energy required for a good signal, pointing in more than a single, tightly focused spot, would be incredible. And anyone with the capability to produce energy in those levels would probably just as soon go visit another system, rather than just try talking.
Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, my PC's will always be doing either Seti or Folding.

SETI@home "classic" will end then the separate BOINC-gui is finished, and their servers can take the load.

Not sure on the server-situation, except AFAIK there haven't been any crashes or anything in November, and atleast with current load no problem keeping up with demand.

For windows, the standalone-gui is more or less complete, but still some small problems in v4.55.
Also, the screensaver in v4.55 isn't working if running as service, but AFAIK this is already added so should be included in next alpha-release.
The biggest change in v4.55 is the new installer, that among other things installs BOINC as service on NT. 😎
This new installer is MSI package, so can costumize installation and deploy to many computers. 🙂

Since win9x doesn't have service-installation, the solution here is AFAIK still not finalized.

As for non-windows, there's still no gui reached alpha.

I think you mean,

SETI@home "classic" will end when the separate BOINC-gui is finished, and their servers can take the load.

lol ,you always get that word wrong😉

Oh ,& ditto what Rob said ,I personally couldn't vote either way😱
When S@H1 finishes I shall switch some to S@H2 but my main rig will run DPAD for sometime.
After that I will probably rotate projects far more than I have in the past ,at least with my 2 home rigs anyway.

When they pry it out of my dead cold fingers..

Oh.. wait... wrong group. 😉

Ah.... not until I get my Intel 3.8ghz machine. <hint> Dell's slashing prices for the rest of the year! 🙂

This is the reason I voted for cheer 😛
