This popped in my head recently, like the Futarama episode.

I have to wonder: If robotic sexual services became available and widespread, how would it affect humanity?

Say for example you had a robot that was lifelike, but had abilities to make it better than any human ever could be at doing the dirty. Mechanical features, let me put it that way. Use your imagination.

Would people begin to prefer the robots over humans? How bad would this hurt actual breeding amongst humans?

I think it would just mean that ATOT wouldn't need women. There are probably decent sex dolls out there today, but few people have them because it's looked down upon quite a bit. For a lot of people, half of sex is seeing your partner having fun anyway.

No, humanity would not die off. Sex is completely separate from the desire to reproduce. If sex were the only thing that factored into having children, then all children would be "accidents"; whereas in the modern family, most children are planned. It would however, reduce the overall population, which imo would be a good thing.

Uh, as hard as this might be to believe for someone like the OP, there are people who plan pregnancies...unplanned pregnancies as the result of careless and unprotected sex purely for pleasure isn't the only reason the human race exists...

Granted, it would certainly help curb unsustainable population growth, we'd just have to deploy these sexbots in places like India and Africa.
