Looking to run another raid zero and love the raptors. But I just dont see the need in them (or expense) for second computer. Which drives would be second fastest in Raid 0.

Thanks guys

The one thing I don't understand is why doesn't Seagate or Hitachi come out with a competitor?

Does WD really sell so many Raptors that the other companies would consider putting one out? I mean, how many people have them?

Its not very cost effective for competition in that sector. Plus rumor has it the server segments of those companies isnt a big fan of SATA taking sales form SAS away. So they reserve the 10/15K drives for SAS where they get alot more overhead.

Actually Hitachi 7K80 or 7K160 models are excellent in RAID-0. They can hit over 400MB/sec burst rates (synthetic benchmarks) in arrays of four units - and they are ridiculously inexpensive too. The definitely fit the definition of RAID - redundant array of INEXPENSIVE disks. Probably only third after the latest generation of Raptor and Seagate 7200.10 w/ perpendicular recording in RAID-0. If you are willing to spend the money, you can still get older (only one or two generations) 10k SCSI drives that will mop the floor with the Raptors.

And remember that RAID-0 is risky for holding important data. "Running RAID-0 without keeping a good, verified backup is like test-flying experimental aircraft without a parachute." (c) 2001 by me.
