I have a cannon i860 printer and I am starting to get low on ink. I however have found websites that sell these generic brand ink cartridges that work in my printer, for ALOT cheaper. However, since I do alot of printing of 4x6 pictures, and dvd covers as well, should i stick to the Canon brand ink as the replacement, or is the quality on these other inks just as good when it comes to printing pictures and covers. the covers are 300dpi when printing and im not sure how the 4x6 pictures are, i believe they are the same. So please, any input would help, thanks.

No.

Use refills if you know how to use em right. Generic carts work too if you can get em cheap enough. However, if you do refill or use refurb carts, do not use a cart that has been used more than 3 times (refills). After that the ink heads start to get so worn than it smudges all over the place.

SunnyD, IIRC, most Canon ink carts are ink tanks and thus do not have the print head attached to the ink cart like "most" HP carts do

I think most of the newer canon's are head+ink now. But I haven't worked on one in about 5 years, and that's when they were ink tanks only. Don't kill me for not researching the printer.
