If plants absorb energy from the sun....

... what kind of matter is that energy converted into? Carbon? Nitrogen? Oxygen? And I don't mean "tee hee hee Salty, plants in general breath in carbon dioxide and spit out oxygen", I'm talking about the scientific fact proven by Einstein that E=MC^2, so if plants are taking in energy (E), they best producing some mass (M). Unless they are using 100% of that energy themselves I would suppose, but don't think that would work long term given that predators get to feed off plants but plants still grow and thrive, so some free mass there coming from energy. So I think they are converting energy to mass, but what mass?

And look, if you don't know the answer, that is fine, but please don't troll, talk shit, etc., just don't bother replying.

Thanks!

Plants convert sunlight to molecular bonds. No energy => matter conversion takes place.

Since we're discussing quantum physics, this isn't correct. Chemical bonds do involve very minute matter- energy conversions. At quantum levels the everyday matter-energy understanding doesn't work and isn't descriptive of anything.

WTF??? What are "molecular bonds" and how is that not matter? Your answer seems.... wrong haha....
If you've ever burned gasoline, you've released energy from a molecular bond. To pull the carbon out of C02 takes the same amount of energy as is given off when the CO2 molecule was made.

It only seems wrong to you because you're in the wrong simulation. In this simulation, we don't suffer fools. Maybe try the next VM over.

Sounds like someone is upset they tried to pretend they knew the answer but got punked. I literally warned you about that in my first post hahaha! Maybe you will end up wiser from the whole experience, but I doubt it...

Says the doofus who can't apply Einstein's equation to plants. The equation only has three terms but that has overwhelmed your capacity to think.

A plants energy is converted into seeds silly and the matter or mass that surrounds them. A plants only purpose is to reproduce and provide for the next generation they use 100% of there energy to do that. Like tomatoes for example. The seeds inside get their energy to reproduce from the decaying mass that surrounds them.

There takin our energies! They live and thrive amongst us, but soon they will block out the Sun from us! STOP THE MADNESS!!!!

MODS, I thought you had policy against put-downs like these? Are you going to enforce it fairly? Don't be jokes...

IronWing - yes, I literally quoted the equation, and I don't think the fact that the speed of light is involved changes anything hahahahha. Hurts to be wrong and talk shit about what you literally have no clue about hahahaha....

The bolded by me comment of yours is not allowed here, even if it didn't devolve into you insulting us. I am now going to convert this matter and put the resultant energy into a well deserved vacation for you.

I guess we could substitute the speed of your mom into the equation.

Mods??? Where are you mods??? Are you not supposed to ban people over stuff like this??? Do your job mods...

IronWing, so sorry you were so wrong, even after I gave you fair warning you should not post if you have not idea what you are talking about. But you didn't heed my warning, and now you look like you are a dumbass. Wait, not look like...

See post #11. If you object to a post, use the RP function. Other than that, the one acceptable venue for being "salty" with the mods is Moderation Resources. That you don't seem to know that yet is kind of "nuts."

So, its seems the smarter people on this forum (of course excluding you know who that just made himself look like an idiot hahahaha) agree it creates mass. What is that mass? What atoms or what not does it create?

Thanks for any serious, knowledgeable replies!!!

Apparently something is converting the energy of the sun into plants to something, because it seems some forms of plant life have figured out how to join Anandtech and ask about how their relatives function.

MODS... WHERE ARE YOU? Trolling like this in and of itself has to be off limits, even apart from the derogatory attack against me. You say those things are off limits, well then ENFORCE IT....

Read the mod comments in posts #11 and #14. See if you can absorb the mass of their meaning and turn it into more positive energy.

Since you seem so dead set on this most of a plants energy that obviously comes from the Sun via photosynthesis is converted into cellulose. That is were most if not all plants get there mass from. Plants convert their energy into cellulose which is just a basic form of carbon.

Yer probably going to end up on a vacation from this childishness, but to actually answer your question:

This, mostly. They also pull some minerals from the soil, and a decent amount of carbon from the air (that's the breathing part they do). Light doesn't turn into matter, it's utilized photosynthetically as energy. Same way we chemically convert plants into energy. Also water. Lots and lots of water.

I don't think it's absorbing the energy and turning it into matter, it's more like it's using it to convert existing matter (CO2, nutrients etc).

Think of it like using solar power to run a processing plant that takes materials and converts them to something else. At least that's my understanding of it.
