If PHP/MySQL programmers are one in a dozen......

I'm just curious. If a crap load of people know how to make dynamic websites like campusfood, myspace (ugh), etc. etc. etc.... why don't more people do them? Am I missing something?

They aren't creative, don't have the motivation, can't see a project through to completion, or aren't that good at designing a dynamic website?

it's almost always easier to implement a good idea than to come up with one

besides it takes a lot of effort to make a site popular, and there are probably many more failed sites than the successful ones you see

One thing to program; another to design something that works properly.

Nah, it's not even the function stage (implied by "works properly") that trips many up. It's coming up with the initial idea and development thereof.

. . . and marketing plus content makes successful web sites.

With all the pre-written content managment and other apps you might not even need a programmer, just someone who can RTFM.

idea first, programming second. who said they were one in a dozen? Don't count your eggs before they cross the road buddy.

Problem is that many people coming out of school do not have the comprehension to RTFM (developers and customers alike).
