in other words, criticizing immgrants for sending money home doesn't seem like a valid criticism to me, and is hypocritical given the average American's willingness to send lots of money abroad for their own reasons, something that is clearly illustrated by our huge trade imbalance.
When they can come and take someone's home and all his property to pay for medical bills, but an illegal has sent all his money out of the country and it can't be traced, then that's hypocritical.
And the idea that letting in illegals will help our trade balance is questionable. How about we pay the american worker to make the things we need right here in America. That would help the trade balance too.
It's not the American workers fault that they can live on 8 cents an hour in China.
I've been a blue collar worker my entire life, and I can sympathize with some of the sentiments underlying your opinions. However, it is too easy to make people who aren't any different than me, working people trying to make a better life for their family, into the enemy, when the real enemy is the powerful business interests who can corrupt and manipulate the system to their advantage.
Fight to make corporations and business play by the rules, and don't let them write the rules. And not just in our country, but in all parts of the world.
But don't blame the Chinese girl working for 8 cents an hour, or the Mexican laborer putting roofs on fabulous houses in some gated community in Florida.
Or at least I don't blame them, I consider them brothers and sisters.
Noble sentiments, but.....
What you fail to consider is that
I am also just trying to fo the best for
MY family and in my book they come before an illegal any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Letting the illegals come across the border in droves isn't helping the situation and TALKING about holding businesses accoutable is just that, nothing but talk. I already do everything I know how to do to fight big business abuses and is hasn't been enough. That's why I support unions, even though I live in a right-to-work state and unions probably won't help me much, at least not directly. I really wish we could hold business accountable for what they're doing, but as my Dad always told me, wish in one hand and sh1t in the other and see which one gets full the quickest.
I've already stated that if we need more labor then we need to bring workers in LEGALLY so they can't be as easily abused by business. We also need to bring in the best quality workers (and doctors, engineers, etc.) we can get and they should be coming from all over the world, not just Mexicans.
To me it's a tip off when people try and tell me they are "our brothers and sisters". Your brothers and sisters have the same rights you do, no? All the other people/races in the world are our brothers and sisters, no? Why just give the Mexicans a break?? Either you think it's making/saving you money, or your a Mexican. Either you want these people to have the rights and privliges that we enjoy or you want to abuse them.... and the rest of the blue collar workers right along with them.
And I don't blame the Chinese girl making 8 cents/hr. She's living in her
own country and doing what she can to make it better for everyone and also for herself. I can't do a damn thing about what China does, or about the jobs our "leaders" export to other countries, but I can do something about the illegals that they are bringing in to hold our wages down and lower our working conditions, benifits, etc.
It's really simple, the way I look at it, they can go ahead and export all the jobs they can, but the ones that can't be exported ought to pay a living wage. Anything else is just more abuse by big business. I didn't bust my azz for the last 30 years so the businesses could export my job, but so be it. Now they want to increase the labor supply so they can continue to abuse us. BS, NOT ON MY WATCH!!
Anybody who supports illegals doesn't (IMO) know what real competition is, but hold on to your seats because your going to find out the hard way. Wise up people and let's get some leadership in this country that actually cares about "we the people" more then coporate profits.
