If only we paid our scientists and educators as much as athletes, actors, etc.

Watching the women's US Open. William's sisters cleaned up. $450,000 for 2nd place. $850,000 for first!

It's not like they cured cancer or something. WTF is our priorities? How can the people clap when they get the check? Ah, that's right, they probably bought scalped tickets for $2000 each anyways. Bastards!!!! :(
/rant off

Hehehe. Seriously this just makes no sense to me.

It's a free country. Those scientists and educators are perfectly welcome to compete against the Williams sisters for that cash. Something tells me that they should keep their day jobs though. Compensation in the marketplace is driven by the abundance or scarcity in the marketplace of the skill sets the person offers to the person paying the check. Since many more people can teach than can beat Venus Williams at tennis, she gets paid more.

if that was the case, there would be a lot more teachers and scientists and less athletes.

It's all economics... supply and demand

the high morality of a career doesn't equate to more money as it shouldn't.
entertainment in movies and television will usually always be bigger than any normal business..
because the customers are the people that watch TV, and practically everyone in the US watches TV...
the only customers that scientists have are the people who will benefit from the product. If the product
even turns out to be successful. Still, scientists (depending on what kind) make a good living.. it's just that
not everyone in the US is a customer, and practically everyone in the US is a customer in watching TV.
