... just so happens to have somehow managed to have the car to go up a rather large, probably 15 foot embankment, jump a chain link fence with security wire atop it, and land inside the fence, of which the property happens to be that of an airport ...

Does one get charged with federal trespassing regardless of the circumstances? 😕

I only ask because I'm curious what the dude I saw on the way to work might be getting ticketed and/or arrested for this morning. I know that the feds are pretty picky about who ends up on the other side of the fence at airports.

Assuming it wasn't intentional I can't imaging that person would be charged with a federal crime. My guess is the guy was arrested for DUI.

You saw somebody jump the fence at the airport on your way into work? That seems slightly unusual.

No, I saw a small car (Fiat maybe?) sitting a bit off kilter, but still on all fours, on the airport side of the fence, and a local police officer, federal customers officer and a wrecker on the public side of the fence (on the road actually).

Best part was that where the car/fence was had to be a good 20 yards from the road, and while it had been raining all night, the roads were mostly dried out by the time I was heading to work. We had no idea when it happened, but we can only assume the guy went too fast, lost control (or on purpose) went up the embankment, caught air and went over the fence since the fence was still mostly intact and upright.

Any federal charges would have to be heard in a federal court. Unless it was a common occurrence, I wouldn't expect that there to be a mechanism for simple traffic charges.

Though, I could be wrong.

There's this curve out by our local airport where so may people have gone through the fence that they finally put up like this breakaway section that they can just put back up. The property owner that is on the inside bend of the curve put a huge boulder right in the bend to keep people off his property too.

Sounds like to me he was making a crash landing.

thank you, thank you, I'll be here all day.
