If offered a job on Friday, is it OK to ask them for the weekend to decide?

Apparently I am getting a job offer today that I am want to sit on before taking, at least until Monday morning. I'm expecting a call shortly, is it usual to ask for a day, in this case the weekend, to decide?

Also, I'm on contract until July 15th for some work I don't want to drop, it would mean losing a great client. I'm assuming this offering company should be at least open to giving me some time before beginning, any thoughts? When I went for the first interview 2 weeks ago I was free immediately, now not so much.

With the way I was offered, I got a formal offer letter saying if I didn't accept it within {x amount of time} it'd be forfeited. I don't think it's unreasonable in the slightest for you to ask for some time to decide.

Immediate responses are always required on all job offers.

Seriously though, unless they tell you they need to know right away, it is perfectly fine to ask for time to decide.

Ok thanks guys, I was pretty certain but I wanted to make sure.

This contract I'm in may be a bit sticky, I know they want the new person to start right away. They called my main reference today and said they were super impressed, and that they were writing up the letter of offer today (told this to the reference) which I thought was a bit odd, but whatever.

If they didnt give you time to think it over I would be more worried.

Tell them you are mulling over the numerous offers you got this past week and need the weekend to decide.

Now I just need to wait and see if they're actually going to offer the job to me and not just tell my reference, waiting game! Thanks again!

Tell them it depends on how many zeroes are on the offer... less than six and you walk.
