If not sleep by number mattress then which mattress???

So consumer affairs seems to show lots of folks unhappy with sleep by number / select comfort mattresses.

I bought a mattress back in 2007 from Costco. It's a sealy brand pillow top and for the first coupe years it was supportive and comfy but the last couple years it's just another mattress that is old and saggy and causing me back pain to boot. I can't flip it as its single sided but I've rotated it once but that didn't help for long.

I thought about a number bed because it makes sense but a lot of reviews are just the opposite. Some say it's just not a good bed. Others say even if it's ok, then it's just cheap and parts start to fail. Sounds scary considering it costs more than a spring mattress anyway.

Suggestions?

I bought a memory foam topper. I'm happy and it was cheap. I now use a 2". I've slept on a 4" and next purchase will be an 1 1/2".

My wife and I got a tempurpedic and love it so far. Yeah it was expensive, but it apparently has a 20 year warranty on it.

I bought a full size bed and the mattress started going bad so I started shopping. I decided I wanted a quality mattress. They let me get up on them. I bought one of the major brands with a reputation for being good for your back. The sales person showed me one that was a lot cheaper than the top of the line and told me that it had the same basics inside, so would last as long. I've slept on it for around 27 years! Seems to be as good as new, no sag, I love it. Once in a while I turn and/or rotate it. It's the same on eiher side. I marked numbers on each end, both sides: 1, 2, 3, 4. If my head has been over 2, when I rotate/flip it, next is 3. Simple.

Serta I-Comfort Series...It's like the tempur pedic, only less expensive, and with cooling gel in the memory foam. I used to sweat alot using memory foam. Not with the Serta...Love it

I have a sleep number.. i use a memory foam topper and couldn't be happier. Has a 20 year warranty and excellent customer service.

My wife and I bought a memory foam a few months ago. Previously, we spent 10 years on a good brand pillowtop.

The new matress never had an "OMG this is sooooo much better" moment, but upon reflection, I sleep well every night and I no longer have the niggling little aches and pains all the time when I get up. I don't wake up in the night and have to shift my sleeping position as much. It does seem to hold in a little more heat, so I usually do without the comforter, but that's the only negative affect.

Yeah, for how long tho...since it doesn't have specs, have to assume it's 3lb on the top 2.5", which might give a few years, not much more.

For those who are interested tho and want to kick themselves, I believe the queen was $188 last week.

As for the OP's feelings about Costco's Sealy beds, yes, they absolutely suck and don't give more than a few good years either.

We had a memory foam one and hated it. Our current is like yours, only a couple years old and sagging badly. can't be flipped. We were thinking sleep number too but are afraid of the cost.

I agree. I really thought the Costco thing was a great idea since its so hard to go wrong with Costco but in hindsight it wasn't. I comfort sounds like a good bed but I don't know if I'm down for thousands on a mattress!! Yikes!

Sleep Numbers advertising always made it seem like air is the best way to go. If that's the case, why are they now advertising memory foam also?

I tried one of those sleep numbers in a hotel one week, and its like sleeping on a tarp. All crinkling and making noise as you move around, and the air thing is way overrated.
We got a Tempurpedic last spring, and I've never slept this well in my life. No aches, no pains, our memory foam topper didn't compare to this at all. I don't think I'll ever go without.

i bought a W Heavenly mattress 2 years ago ... couldn't be happier, thing is the most comfortable bed i've ever slept in.

I have come to the conclusion that the only quality mattresses are Temperpedic and Stearns & Foster. Both are expensive, it just depends whether you like memory foam or conventional box springs.

My mom has a Denver mattress in her spare room and it is trash (for whoever said that).
