So I built a pc for a friend a few years ago and it recently gave up the ghost. They asked if I could fix it, so I checked it & it had no power at all. Put in a new PSU and now it powers up, but no video.

Checked video card in another system & it's good, so I'm thinkin' mobo (or some part of it) is dead???

TIA (P.S. Mobo is ECS Nforce3-A v1.0)

It sounds like the power supply went and took several components with it. If you use a quality power supply they will rarely take other components with them. This is why I always recommend a good power supply.

I'm glad to hear that at least some things are still working.

When you say it powers up, does it beep or give any indications that it makes it into Windows?

Yeah, if there is a speaker hooked up, but you are tgetting no audio codes, the board is probably toast. You can swap ram, reseat the CPU, barebone out of case, but the mobo is the likely issue.

Ya, things beep & bleep & light up, just no video. I can hear the HD spin up & rev. I might also pull the HD out & see if it'll boot windows in another pc.

New mobo on the way....we'll see what gives.

Thanks again!

Which beep code it gives can be very illuminating. If it is a good boot beep <Willy Wonka> That's just weird</>

1 long, 2 short would tell you that the graphics slot probably fried. I keep a few old PCI cards around for troubleshooting that problem.

Should always check the easy stuff too - Did you test the monitor and monitor cable?

Most likely mobo though as this same exact thing happened to me a few years ago.
