Pronounce the glass, Nikor as Knee-Core?

Admittingly, NYE-CORE does not sound as good. ;)

Some will swear Nikon is Knee-Con. There is one online right now. ;)

These debates can sometimes be solved by calling their tech support line.

ASUS' tech support line has an automated message that pronounces it "Ah-Suess".

nikon is a combination of nippon kogaku (the company's original name) and ikon (old very respected camera brand)

the nikkor brand is actually older than nikon

their advertising says nye-con

Yep, it is pronounced the same as 'Pegasus' minus the Peg, from which ASUS is derived. I refuse to conform to this. It sounds like a blunted sneeze.

No, it's pronounced ah-soos. Unless you're pronouncing Pegasus in a very strange way then your story doesn't hold water.

aye-suess but I hear aye-suss (even asses by a disgruntled user nonetheless!) for Asus.

<-Canon user here as well. Nikon F4 and Mamiya-Sekor film but those bodies collect dust now.

Waiting for F1.2L85mm prime for my 1DmkII. :D

Its odd to me that Nikon makes such quality cameras and lenses when their microscopes suck relative to the other major three manufacturers.

Wow, nice! That 85 1.2 is such a beautiful lens, I wish I had that sort of cash to throw around! Probably my number 1 most desired lens (well, apart from the 1200mm f/5.6).

In English, yes. However, they're not originally English words and weren't "translated" properly :p

Japanese people pronounce Nikon as nee-kón. Same with Nisan Nee-sán.

Even worse and more like a blunted sneeze than I had it.

The name ASUS originated from Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology.

ASUS did indeed originate from Pegasus, but the pronunciation is different and people have been close but yet to get it correct here:
look at pegasus: peg-a-sis
a is short. ASUS keeps the short a.
It sounds most like: uhSeuss - so ah-soos is correct, if you are imagining 'ah' is more like 'uh' since it's a short 'a'.
peg-uh-sis
uh-seuss
a-soos/a-seuss
ASUS

see? :p
