If New York City is an indication Democrats should be worried.

I don't remember if it was 24 or 29 percent buts thats how low Bloomber(R) was in the polls about two years ago.
Then Bloomberg, a billionaire, started running a 20 million dollar(out of his own pocket) ad campaign two years before the election. And guess what? Even savvy New Yorkers got snowed. And Bloomberg just won re-election, big time.
He spent something over 100 million dollars in his campaign. Mostly out of his own pocket. The Democrat spent about 20 million.
Money wins elections and can even get failures re-elected.
Democrats beware.

Bloomberg was a registered (D) and switched party affiliations to run for mayor in the less crowded Republican field, IIRC. Regardless of what party's badge he wears, it's certainly not like he's a flaming conservative.

Umm wtf are you smoking? Bloomberg is def more liberal then conservative. He is more fiscally conservative, but in terms of social issues he leans to the left.

He did a good job the last four years and he DOES deserve to get reelected.

Edit: as for the money thing, I'm pretty sure that if he spent the same amount as Ferrer, he still would have won. He got countless endorsements from newspapers like the New York Times, Daily News, and New York Post. Also, he was defenetly a better candidate than ferrer. All ferrer wanted to do was borrow money and TAX WALL STREET.

Yes, that wasn't a typo. Ferrer wanted to tax all stock transactions for 1 cent.

Bloomberg is no neo-con or part of the religious right. He's fairly moderate.

Umm, Bloomberg is not your typical Republican. He is socially very liberal, and fiscally a bit conservative, which is why I like him.

I wouldn't apply NYC politics to anywhere else in the country or the country as a whole. It's a whole different culture down there.

The things Bloomberg did that pissed people off?
He was famous for the sweetheart deal where he tried to give his buddy, fellow billionaire, Robert Johnson, The West Side railroad yards so Johnson could build a new New York Jets stadium. Johnson was going to pay an extremely small amount (12 million?) instead of what was offered by other potential developers (600 million). Oh yeah, then he was going to spend hundreds of millions to develope trains and roads to the stadium. Just one of Bloomies Billionaire Buddies support group.

Should be good news for the Dems, after all, the great majority of mega-rich Congressmen are Dems. I think something like the top twenty or so richest are Dems and a high percentage of the top 100 are also Dems.

So much for the party of the working man...

Bloomberg represents what the Republican Party is capable of becoming if it were to shed the religious right and NeoCon nutjobs...easily capturing independents, fiscally conservative liberals (they do exist), and socially progressive conservatives (they exist too).

Both parties have rich and poor people. Where they belong is up to them really.
