If my Samsung 955DF has a refresh rate of 85 horz, 160 vert. does that mean i can only get 85fps?

Ok my Samsung 955df has a refresh rate of 85 horizontal, and 160 vertical. And in windows display properties, it will only let me select wither 85hz or 100hz for the refresh rate. So i chose 100. But in Counterstrike I can still only get an fps of 85. Is it because the monitor is limited to that refresh rate in games? Or is it because my settings are messed up (however I have set the refresh rate to 100 in NVMAX)

Yes, the refresh rate is the max number of frames you can get with vysnc on. If you're only getting 85... that might be just how fast your computer can run CS

Yeah I know that with vsync on I can only get the maximum fps as my refresh rate. But my refresh rate is at 100 in windows. Am I'm not getting 100 because the horiz. refresh rate is at 85?

You need to go into the counter-strike console and type "fps_max 100" or "max_fps 100" (its one of those anyway) without the quotes of course.

The Half-life engine just defaults to a max of 85 fps to keep things smooth or something...

Well it might be bad drivers, slow busses, settings in software, etc, etc...

I guess the easiest way to find out is if other games run faster than 85 fps at the same resolution...

EDIT: Well, read above post. Hopefully that should help. :)
