If my car audio amp gets hot,is that mean there's a replacement needed?

30 minutes is a little short, but enough time for an inadequately-cooled amp to get hot enough to go into protect mode.

Are you exceeding it's rated impedance load? Is it under a seat? Under carpet?

you prolly have it wired up to the incorrect ohm load.

did you do this or a store?

if you did it, did you wire it up parrallel, or series, and what is the vc config of the Sub(s) you are running?

what are the power specs on the amp and at what ohm are these obtained? is the amp bridged, or no?

those are all the questions you need to figure out before someone can diagnose it.
(wow, im literally half asleep LOL)
and damnit, MikeD beat me to it.

Depends on several things. How do you have it wired (ie standard 4 ohm, bridged, 2 ohm, etc)? How high do you have the gain on the amp? How much air space is around it? What's the ambient temperature when this happens?

Edit: Jesus, you people need lives. :p

I hook this up to tha 2 sub(150watts each), the amps is behind the back seats. the RF is direct connect to the 4 channel JL amps to control the 2 pairs of components. it is in 4ohms. i have this in store installed. sorry, that's all i know for now. i don't know the rest of your question. and sometimes, i fold the seat down just for the amps to have air from the trunk

Congratulations, you're the 9,212th person to make that joke.

i give up. i wont say it again.

krisoto: take it to the store where you had it installed. ask them to look at it. it should be getting plenty of air in the trunk, the trunk doesnt stay that warm, but it MIGHT, see if it overheats with the rear seat folded down.

just another question, but is english your first language? if it is, please try to speak it better. if not, ok

LoL, I was thinking similar to that.
Saw alittle bit off those amps cover fins so that the 72mm HSF (4 of them) would fit exact right in but how to fixed IN is the problem. glue doesn't work

krisoto-make sure you have enough room around the amp for the heat to disapate. RF amps run really hot. They use a special heat sink that does a good job of getting the heat off the boards, but their amps need room to breathe. If thats not the issue, I would have to say its a bad amp. Take it back to where you bought it. RF gives you something like a 3 year warranty on amps as long as you buy them from an authorized dealer.

like BillGates suggested, i recommend at least (2) 12v fans running across your cooling fins (both fans flowing in the same direction) to drop the temp a little bit. As far as your amp cutting off, you may be using too much power, or exactly the opposite, clipping your amp, in which your amp will go into a "standby" or "protection mode" to avoid further damage. Verify that you have a good ~12-14 volts going to the amp when your car is running. If you DO buy fans, DO NOT splice them into the power for your amp; run a seperate line and split that if need be.

-=bmacd=-

edit: fyi: when you "crank up" your volume on your HU, you're putting a big load on your amp. Try to adjust your gains to match your listening preference, that way the amp may not have to work as much. Also, don't listen to your music so loud...you're going to do severe damage to your ears, and once your ears are gone, there's no fixing them.

meh...you really dont know much do you?

RF amps will not go into protection mode and stop putting out sound altogether. They will play until they are dead. You shouldnt need additional fans with such a simple setup. It sounds like a bad amp. If his other amp is still playing, then most likely his RF amp is just bad, especially if its cutting out altogether.

take it to the place that installed it. If thats where you bought the amp from, they should either fix it, or give you a new one. If you didnt buy it there, they will at least be able to confirm/deny that you have a bad amp.

he could have it wired to a load which it cannot support no? that could also be why it is going into protect mode. RF amps do have protection if they get to hot.

alright, i think i got this right. the way the installer wired my sub to the amps is the two right are in 1st (+)channel and the two left are in the 2nd channel(-). now i set it in the right place left and right in 1st channel and left and right in the 2nd channel. so far so good, the amp didn't went to the protection mode but now, i lost the big bass sound. i don't know why the installer did that. any clue??

It sounds like he bridged the amp and wired the subs in parallel. By doing that, you lower the impedance the amps sees and therefore get more power. But it has the downside of making the amp work much harder than wiring them normally which I'm sure contributed to the overheating (if it is overheating and not shutting down for some other reason). Since you wired them normally, that should help with the overheating but you'll probably need to turn the gain on the amp back up to get a decent sound output.
