If Metallica had continued along the lines of Justice and Master of Puppets

Check this one out. The first 2 Trivium albums was a lot of screaming/yelling the verses with a sung chorus and some pretty good guitar solos. Their newest album sounds a LOT like old Metallica with a little Maiden/Megadeth tossed in. In fact his voice sounds almost exactly like Hetfield to me.

If Metallica had just stayed with MoP and AJfA styles I would still listen to them...
BTW, listened to a couple of songs off of this CD and it sounds not a whole lot like them. Too... I dunno. Just not my style. Time to go back to listening to Umphrey's 06/05/06 show with the Jimmy Stewart off the Triple Wide and marvel at how awesome it is instead of listening to Trivium which doesn't really sound like MoP to me but oh well Ninja likes them and I respect that. :)

The black album has as many good songs as all the ones before it put together. There I said it, now deal with it.

Ascendancy is good if you like screaming-style heavy metal. Even if you don't, some of the guitar work is awesome.

I wouldn't go that far, but I did love the black album. Also didn't mind load and reload, it was different than their older stuff but it was still good sh!t. I hated St. Anger though

Yeah its probably an exageration, but if I had to list my top 10 Metallica songs 5 of them would probably be from the black album.

My Friend of Misery is the only Top 10 material song on the entire album.

I'm kinda partial to Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, and Don't Tread on Me. I'd say at least the two former would belong on my own top 10 Metallica list.

I like the whole album, although I do like the earlier ones more now. It has a polish to it that their earlier stuff lacked (which incidentally is also why I like the earlier stuff more, there's more raw engergy to it).

the black album is the best metallica album. But the best songs come off of justice and ride. Songs like Live is to die, one and fade to black are all just epic.

Did you just not mention Master of Puppets? I think the black album is metallicas biggest commercial hit, but far from their best music.

And as far as Trivium goes, the vocals on their latest cd are better than the previous two, yet the music sounds bland and generic.

The long instrumental is my favorite song on the Crusade (I believe that's the name of the song too...). Their last two albums were good, especially Ascendency. This one ismore polished, but that doesn't mean it's better!

Been listening to the crusade nonstop since it came out. Best metal album released in quite some time.

i stopped listening to trivium when this album came out. their song writing went down the tubes and the whole album has a cheese factor that i can't ignore.

not to mention that the last time i saw them in concert they were flat out awful

no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

the first 2 trivium albums were good. this new one is pure garbage. the only thing that makes them like metallica is that they cover their songs in concert.

Well I just got The Crusade so it's hard for me to decide whether I like it better than The Ascendency. I really like Ascendency a lot - but the vocals on the two albums is completely different. They both have great guitar and drum work on them though. I'll have to go back and buy their very first album too. Oh, and just a quick plug for Killswitch Engage too. They are quite good.

Metallica's best songs, IMO:

1. Nothing Else Matters (black album)
2. Turn the page (they did not write it)
3. Whiskey in the jaro (they did not write it)
4. Unforgiven (black album)

Which albums have songs along those lines?
