...would you buy it?

  • Mass Effect 3 is a preorder/release day purchase, whether it requires origin or not

  • I don't care if Mass Effect 3 requires origin, but I wont buy it before seeing reviews

  • If Mass Effect 3 requires origin I will not pay full price for it

  • I will only purchase Mass Effect 3 if it is available through steam

  • I will only purchase Mass Effect 3 if it does not require a client such as origin or steam

Well you didnt really answer the question. The point I was trying to make was that Steam is convenient for some users, and can cause issues for others if you have a bad internet or just have connection problems for some other reason. And believe me it does happen because I have decent internet and a decent computer, and I could not connect with steam for days when their new authentication process took effect.

I cant understand why someone would refuse to play a game that they wanted to play just because it is not on Steam. My point was that before Steam we managed to play and enjoy PC games, so I dont understand why we still cant.

Because it's a hassle for me and not as convenient when compared to Steam :) I have additional tools and a setup tailored to offer me a hassle-free and enjoyable gaming using Steam. I have plenty other great games to play that are on Steam that are waiting to be played. For other people it that may very well not be the case, but it is for me.

Of course I'm not saying I will for sure not get ME3 if it's Origin only. Just that I don't know yet.

My household bought three copies of ME1 and three copies of ME2. If ME3 requires Origin, we'll buy zero copies.

There is no way I would ever use Origin.

So no, if it requires origin I will not get it.

I won't get it at launch no matter what though. I don't think it is worth it.

Same here. Poll options are missing. I won't buy it on Origin (like I haven't bought BF3. Well that and it's $45+), but I don't NEED it to be on Steam. My problem is mainly the browser and keylogging etc that Origin does.

And buying anything on release day is idiotic no matter what.

It is quite the conundrum. Steam may be the only place to get Digital Distribution of Valve Games, but they are a small player with maybe 12ish Titles and only release 1 or 2 a year. EA, OTOH, is a major player which releases(est) 30%+ all Games(by Sales Volume)in the Market. That really skews things as Valve has few, if any, conflicts with Competitors, but EA is in direct competition with practically everyone else(including Valve) in the Industry. That's not to say that it will be an issue, but the risk is far greater for us Consumers.

Add in that Origin is merely a shadow of what Steam is as far as functionality is concerned and I think it's a no-brainer as far as what is the better service.

If EA releases a game I want and makes it exclusive to Origin, I'll certainly buy it, but I'd rather be using Steam. Steam is more than just a Store, it is, IMO, a Gaming Service and a Community unique on the PC. It's what GFWL wishes to be, yet fails epically. I don't even know if Origin aspires to be that, it certainly pales in comparison.

Unless they come up with a way to convert your saves from the Xbox 360, I'm "locked" into the 360 since I'll want to continue my character from ME1/ME2. I'd much prefer to play on the PC, but that preference does not trump wanting to continue my character from the first two installments.

If I weren't locked in to the 360, I would prefer for it to be on Steam instead of Origin, but I already have BF3 on Origin and it hasn't caused any problems for me, so it wouldn't make or break my purchase.

I don't care about ME 3, but if they come out with something else I want badly enough, requiring origin won't stop me. The only reason I would prefer steam is because all my games are there in one place. Ultimately, having to juggle clients is a minor inconvenience that I can live with though.

No option for "will wait until its hacked and no longer requires it"

Because you know it will.

My only issue is having to remember so many damn login details. Steam, origin, GFWL. I have no problem with origin. But EA's customer service is probably the worst I've ever used. I forgot the password for my EA account that had ME2, BC2 and Dead space on it. Every time I've tried reseting my password, I would get absolutely no help from them.

So I've lost 3 games now cause EA refuse to help me. As much as I don't want to get anywhere near origin. BF3 was a must buy for me and it was only $39 US for me, while it was $50 or in other countries. I'm going to get ME3 day one. I love the series and will deal with origin if I have to.

But there are no other games I'm going to get for origin. NON.

I don't get the anger over Origin (which is still in beta). It only launches when and if you want it to. It is a very lightweight app, and I've never had any problems activating or re-downloading it's games. In fact, it is less obtrusive than Steam because you can play your games without even launching Origin, once they're installed that is.

Now if it was UBI-gin, I think I'd require sedation before installing.

I don't think it's a question of "if", I'm quite confident that it will require it. It's an EA published game and they want to push Origin. I think most, if not all, EA games from this point forward will require it.

Yeah, this seems like such a golden opportunity to push origin. I think finishing the trilogy would be more alluring than avoiding origin, to most people at least. While it seems a significant population of anandtech says no steam is a deal breaker, I don't think anandtech is representative of the general population. We've all seen the screenshot of the boycott Modern Warfare steam group.

Probably not if it was only available on Origin; I honestly have little desire to buy any games that are not on Steam. Of course I will not be buying it anyway because I did not like ME2.

I'm certainly a tad wary about the final game. I enjoyed the fleshing out of the universe and the mission structure in the sequel, but I much preferred the inventory and skill systems from the original.

Where's the "I won't be buying ME3'" option?

Don't vote, I guess. I was more interested in the reaction to game clients and the competition that will likely come in the future rather than interest in Mass Effect.

Yep, same here. I was actually pretty let down by ME2 - I mean, ME was FREAKING AWESOME and at the end of ME2 I just felt a little annoyed and frustrated, not like I had just saved the known Universe.

Honestly, it could require much worse and I'd still keep my preorder - as bad as that sounds. This is one of a few series for which I'd make such an exception.

If they use Origin then they will vote for me in this poll, cause I have not been able to successfully log into their servers ever. I try to reset my stuff and it doesn't work.

I get into Steam and GFWL stuff flawlessly. My friends have also all faced the same things, one purchased Red Alert 3 twice thinking he just had a bad key.. nope, it's just that Origin is so bad it makes GFWL look like a dreamboat.

To me GFWL is the absolute worst. I remember when they had Age of Empires III on sale for 10 cents but, you had to use GFWL.

I didn't feel it was worth it.

yeah....I thoroughly enjoyed ME2 up until the end, then was majorly horrified--perhaps that's the right word, I don't know.

I still think it's a rather fantastic game, and despite the visual improvement and somewhat tighter mechanics (though, as someone mentioned earlier, combat truly is "cover-shoot-cover-shoot-charge-shoot"), it remains very much inferior to the first one. The missions are fun (yeah, I have yet to play Shadow Broker), but the bulk of the game feels primarily like character missions. While some of them are rather in-depth in terms of characterization, such as Jack's missions, The bulk of the ME plot feels rather empty and lost compared to the first.

Still, it's way better than that boring Noah Whiley TV show that ripped off the ME plot--which, I'm sure, was ripped from countless other sources.

There are character editors that allow you to 'change' your choices in the same game. (PC ver)

I don't see the big deal to be honest since 99% of my games are retail and only a few are installed via Steam...I have pre-ordered ME3 anyway, besides I prefer a physical retail copy rather then digital download.

Well your retail copy will still require you to install Origin, and your physical copy will be linked to your Origin account and you'll probably never need the physical copy again.

I'm not buying it anyways, you can find my 3 paragraph rant about ME2 at your own discretion.

I guess I will continue to remain unfulfilled with the Mass Effect plot.

oh well. I'll be too into GW2 this year to give a shit about anything else, anyway.
