There's a lot here. Based on my extensive research citing such works as Terminator I/II, StarTrek I, The Matrix, Superman III, we need to keep computers where they are, not self aware. Nature, and all self aware beings fall under 'nature', have a habit of bucking controls that humans put in place. We need to respect that.
Computers can/are/will be excellent additions to our own creativity and inventivness and will help us do things we would not otherwise be able to do. But mankind is not ready, nor ever will be ready to play God. Once we create something with a soul (self-aware), then we need to be prepared to either respect it and prepare for the consequences or destroy it.
But StarWars did a good job at making cool droids, so I guess I'll leave it up to George Lucas. Isn't he working on one anyway?
