Imagine a world where liberals were in charge of the U.S. What would the country be like?

If Liberals had their way, the U.S. would be nearly perfect; much like the Federation on Star Trek.

If Conservatives had their way, the U.S. would be horrific; much like Hitler's Germany.

but compared to europe the most left-wing liberal is a conservative

If liberals had their way, the nation would be a lot different from how it is now. Depending on the time scope that we're looking at, things would start off slow, and would progress to the point where the USA has regained its lost international relations (thanks, Bush). We would focus on internal struggles, fortifying and strengthening the country itself instead of focusing on having an even bigger penis...err...military. (I come from a line of military men, so bug off) We would act in the favor the international community, and would stop overlooking the fact that the WTO and NAFTA are creating situations which make it impossible for small countries and communities to support themselves. Overall, things would be a lot less focused on benefiting the rich and more focused on equaling out the immense amounts of power and resources that we Americans already have. Face it, the top 1% of Americans DO NOT need more money from the government that could have been used to re-power the failing education departments or to help by allowing greater access for everybody to the necessary medications. I won't say that the US would be perfect, because that's an impossible task; however, it would be a drastic improvement over the selfish hell that the mega-wealthy have made this place.

If the conservatives had their way, the United States would be on hair trigger nuclear alert, everyone would have minimum wage jobs, a ruling class would oppress everyone else, and beggars would be shot.

one thing that is totally misleading in your post is your view on the tax cuts. anyone who pays taxes got a tax refund. period. the 'rich' didnt get more than the 'poor'. if my sister was unable to be claimed as a dependant by my parents, we would have gotten the same ammount.
