If Jesus was alive today, would he be a democrat or a republican?

I'll say a democrat. I think he would be for socialized programs that helped the poor and unfortunate. I don't think he'll give tax cuts to the rich... he was the one who overturned the money-lenders table was he not? He was the one who said 'the meek shall inherit the Earth'.

But then again, maybe the American conservatives know Jesus better than this atheist.

I don't think the jesus in scriptures would be for either, americans worship money above all and that was a big no to him.

Maybe not but he'd still be a filthy socialist liberal which those on the right would stop at nothing to destroy.

Funny how we have come so far yet we still live in the roman empire in so many ways.

It seems silly to even imagine him supporting either party. By evaluating each issue on it's own merits, he would be an independent.

He had long hair, a beard, wore a robe and sandals. Preached 'love thy brother' and made it a goal of his life to help the disadvantage. I know how we define those people in our society.

I doubt he would involve himself in politics, maybe if only to speak for the poor. I'm sure he would be disgusted by either party, even more so the religious institutions who claim to do good works in his name.

I think he would disapprove of both. Think of the money changers at the temple, that is what the 2 parties have become.

I don't think Jesus would support either party, as neither one is very Christian. Jesus would, however, almost certainly be considered a liberal. I find it amazing that the most militant Christians in this country are those on the Christian-right, a contradiction if I've ever heard one.

He would be neither. Both parties are corruption with different methods of leeching off the people.

They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, "Caesar's agents are exacting taxes from us." He said to them, "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, give unto god the things that are god's, and give unto me that which is mine."

I think it's fair to say jesus would be for:

A reduction in health care benefits
Increased debt to facilitate greed
Waging war on entire nations of people on a whim
Pandering to "merchants"
Gerrymandering
Hatred of gays/muslims/poor

He would be against:

Universal health care
progressive taxation
redistribution of wealth to those in need
peace on earth
Love of gays/muslims/poor

Therefor Sean Hannity is the reincarnation of Jesus and he will usher in the era of rapture for them and doom for everyone else that the evangelicals are hoping for, although it will have to wait until after a message from his beloved sponsors. :D

I think it is safe to say Jesus would be an anarchist.

Edit: make that a pacifist anarchist.

More on that here.

Some notable quotes:

# To seek rule by man is to reject the rule of God (1 Samuel 8).
# Honest people are too busy making an honest living to accept political power, so only the corruptible will accept political power (The Parable of the Trees Judges 9:7-15).
# The devil controls man-made governments (Matthew 4:8-10).

jesus was apolitical. that being said he'd most likely be for more socialization, and would be very anti-war. damn hippy.

First we must examine the assumptions in the question before we rush off to answer, I think.

If Jesus were alive today, (sorry but I prefer the subjunctive)?

But you see, Jesus has and will always be alive. Jesus is the link between man and God and as long as man exists so does the link. Of course a curious mind might inquire as to who is God but let's just say God and man go hand in hand but the connection comes through the heart.

Yes, hippie would be a good way to describe his views. Very ironic

And what party are hippies predominantly associated with?

But then he would be robbing somebody else then.

A true holy person would support no political party, stay away from politics.

This thread is just pathetic and is a mockery.

Jesus would be in the Middle East organizing the Arab-Israelie Coalition for peace. My best guess.
